Entering the Game - Day 19 of the 30 Days of Thankfulness
Today was such an amazing day! Generally, Rachel and I and the kids don’t have many commitments on days we don’t work - but today wasn’t one of those days. We had the opportunity to celebrate three birthdays, and attend two parties, along with another get-together this evening.
Since that’s not the norm for us, I was wondering how it would go with our kids. They aren’t used to being at other people’s places, with other people’s rules, and not their toys for long stretches of time.
But tonight, during their third commitment of the day, their typically shy selves around other people got comfortable and opened up. It was amazing to see. Kids they didn’t know before tonight took an interest in them and both Linnea and Elias responded by being kids and playing with their new friends.
To watch as older kids engaged with our younger kids was encouraging. They saw Linnea and Elias weren’t as capable and chose to meet them at their level - playing the games that Linnea and Elias thought up and helping our kids to have the best time.
I guess it’s hitting me that they are growing up. They are now able to do things that they previously couldn’t. But even better than that, Linnea and Elias are becoming more comfortable in new situations. They are slowly learning how to navigate this world with a bit more courage and bravery every day.
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
